i don't think pairing the terms "conservative" and "radical" allows us "to move beyond" binary thinking or dichotomous dialogue.  it seemed to me an appropriation of the term "radical" in order to endorse a previously held position.  it seems to me to be more a repackaging of conservativism than a conversation with radicalism.

i've just finished reading Yoder and an accompanying Romand Coles article.  they talk in terms of teleological and ateleological virtues and practices.  as Christians, we have a distinct direction, but one that is vulnerable to encounters and dialogue with Otherness which in turn, cause us to reexamine our perspective.  because it's essentially conversational, i think their approach has a better chance of breaking free of binary paradigms.
can you tell i really got fired up about Yoder?  great stuff.  Coles too.  it's been a long time since i was excited about the ecclesia.
